DESCRIPTION:Dale Hallock is back and he will share with program attendees highlights and interesting facts from his Gilbert history book “From Cowboys and Sodbusters to a Mega-Residential Community”. Dale came to Gilbert with his parents and siblings as they fled the Oklahoma Dust Bowl and the Great Depression and has called Gilbert his home ever since.  From 1971-1976 he served as the Mayor where he expanded Gilbert from a mere 240 acres to 33\,920 acres\, giving Gilbert the opportunity to grow. Come and enjoy this special opportunity to speak with the author and learn about Gilbert’s history as Dale shares excerpts from his book. \nRegistration is required.

SUMMARY:FAMILY HISTORY-CHILDHOOD TOYS
DESCRIPTION:Join ASU professor emeritus Duane Roen\, founding coordinator for the Project for Writing and Recording Family History in the College of Integrative Science and Arts\, for this unique look at our family history. Each of us has memories of the toys that occupied our play time as children. Some of those toys may have been purchased; some may have been lovingly crafted by family members; some have been ordinary objects that we spontaneously converted to toys—e.g.\, a stick or a rock. In this workshop\, we will talk and write about some of the toys that each of us has had\, reflecting on the role of toys in our lives and the lives of other family members. Age 12 and up. Registration required.
