SUMMARY:Sign of the Times - The Golden Age of Signage in Arizona
DESCRIPTION:The rise of car travel in the 40’s\, 50’s and 60’s meant that thousands of people were traversing he broad expanses of the Southwest looking for new landscapes and adventure. As the cars sped past\, restaurants\, motels\, curio shops and gas stations needed large\, bright signs to make an impression. This informative and entertaining visual presentation explores the social significance of the rise of commercial neon signs\, and references the designers whose signs became iconic images that defined the West in the age of the automobile. Presented by Marshall Shore- Arizona’s Hip Historian- his passion is uncovering the weird\, the wonderful\, and the obscure treasures from our past: the semi-forgotten people\, places\, and events that have made us who we are today. \nRegistration is required.

SUMMARY:The Federalist Papers
DESCRIPTION:The Federalist Papers is a series of 85 essays written by Alexander Hamilton\, John Jay\, and James Madison between October 1787 and May 1788. The essays were published anonymously\, under the pen name “Publius\,” in various New York state newspapers of the time. The Federalist Papers were written to urge New Yorkers to ratify the proposed United States Constitution\, which was drafted in Philadelphia in the summer of 1787. In lobbying for adoption of the Constitution over the existing Articles of Confederation\, the essays explain provisions of the Constitution in detail. You will not want to miss this informative and interactive workshop facilitated by historian and Gilbert resident\, Barry Jackson. Barry has spent an immense amount of time reading and interpreting the papers and has presented to various groups around the state. \nFREE. Registration is required. \nClass sizes will be limited in order to ensure adequate physical distancing. Facial Coverings are recommended.

SUMMARY:Arizona's Greatest Battle
DESCRIPTION:It was the biggest single battle ever fought in Arizona. It happened 160 years ago and lasted only half and hour. It is largely unknown in the annals of Arizona history\, yet it was perhaps the most important battle ever fought by the O’Odham (Pima) and Piipaash (Maricopa) people. The Battle of Pima Butte was also the last large-scale native-against-native skirmish in American history. Sources say that as many as two thousand men took part in the battle. Only a handful of the invaders survived. This single engagement ended hundreds of years of attacks from the traditional Piipaash enemies from the west. Join Steve Hoza\, archivist\, and historian as he details this often forgotten era of Arizona history. \nFREE. Registration is required. \nClass sizes will be limited in order to ensure adequate physical distancing. Facial Coverings are recommended.
