Dr. Paula McCall from Semicolon Society will be providing\ninformation about warning signs of suicide and how to respond to suicide risk\, including\nresources and immediate steps to take in crisis. Discussion will also focus on how to build\nresiliency in our youth and open up critical conversations about mental health. Teens are\nwelcome to attend with a caring adult.\nBiography\nDr. Paula McCall is an Arizona licensed psychologist and Nationally Certified School\nPsychologist who specializes in working with children and adolescents in her private practice\,\nNext Step Psychology. She is also the founder\, director\, and president of Semicolon Society\, an\nArizona nonprofit organization providing free community mental health education as well as\nsuicide prevention and postvention education and supports. Dr. McCall is passionate about\nmental health education and suicide prevention and has collaborated with multiple school\ndistricts and local agencies to build suicide risk assessment procedures and provide free\ncommunity supports and education. DESCRIPTION:April 22\, 2023 | 10:30am-12:00pm. Spend a Saturday morning at the museum conducting fun and exciting science experiments. Local teacher\, Erik Gillman\, will lead participants through a workshop that will allow kids to carve their own wood art using computer numerical control. Whatever design you can draw (or import from the Internet)\, you can carve into wood.  The basic components of the workshop will include: \n\nCreating a design on a Chromebook using EASEL software\nConverting the design into GCODE which the router understands\nSetting up the CNC router and starting the carving process\n\nAll supplies will be provided. Ages 12 & up.  Registration is required.  Space is limited.  Every attendee will need an email address to set up a free account on EASEL.

SUMMARY:Percussion Instrument Make and Play
DESCRIPTION:Join former ASU professor\, Duane Roen\, and his wife Maureen Roen\, director of communications in ASU’s College of Integrative Sciences and Arts and percussionist with the Chandler Symphony Orchestra\, Ahwatukee Foothills Concert Band\, Women’s Orchestra of Arizona\, and the Hot Beignets traditional jazz band\, for this fun and interactive music making workshop. Budding percussionists of all ages will learn how to make and play simple percussion instruments from items found around the home. At the beginning of the workshop\, Duane and Maureen will show some percussion instruments that they have built\, and everyone will be welcomed to play them. Following that\, they will help class participants make simple instruments using everyday objects. The workshop will end with a brief concert performed by all the budding percussionists alongside Duane and Maureen.  Materials will be provided. If participants could bring some small\, hard plastic bottles with lids (e.g.\, vitamin containers)\, that would be helpful (but not required).  Ages 6 & up. \nRegistration is required.
