An urban heat island is an urban area that is significantly warmer than its surrounding rural areas due to human activities. One of the simplest solution to reducing the urban heat island effect is to plant trees to provide more shade. Paul J. Coseo, Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture and Senior Sustainability Scientist at ASU with a PhD in Urban & Regional Planning, and a Masters in Landscape Architecture, will share his knowledge of how our towns and cities and facing hotter temperatures and how trees can help alleviate that while improving air quality.
