Summary of Presentation
This presentation is intended for parents, caregivers, and other adults who care to open up critical
conversations about suicide. Dr. Paula McCall from Semicolon Society will be providing
information about warning signs of suicide and how to respond to suicide risk, including
resources and immediate steps to take in crisis. Discussion will also focus on how to build
resiliency in our youth and open up critical conversations about mental health. Teens are
welcome to attend with a caring adult.
Biography
Dr. Paula McCall is an Arizona licensed psychologist and Nationally Certified School
Psychologist who specializes in working with children and adolescents in her private practice,
Next Step Psychology. She is also the founder, director, and president of Semicolon Society, an
Arizona nonprofit organization providing free community mental health education as well as
suicide prevention and postvention education and supports. Dr. McCall is passionate about
mental health education and suicide prevention and has collaborated with multiple school
districts and local agencies to build suicide risk assessment procedures and provide free
community supports and education. Her proudest role though is that of being a mom to her two
children.
