What started as a photographic expedition to capture images of the world’s largest penguin turned into much more. In 2018 local Arizona photographer, Dr. Amy Novotny, endured two weeks in cramped accommodations aboard a Russian icebreaker traveling to the eastern side of Antarctica through the Drake Passage. Dr. Novotny captured the daily life of the Emperor penguin and, through her exhibit currently on display in Gallery 4, presents both the artistic side of nature photography as well as the reality before us. Join us on July 19, 2020 for a virtual discussion during which Amy shares her experiences of observing this beautiful species, the difficulties of visiting the area, the evidence of climate change and how we can help these animals.
