Join former ASU professor, Duane Roen, and his wife Maureen Roen, director of communications in ASU’s College of Integrative Sciences and Arts and percussionist with the Chandler Symphony Orchestra, Ahwatukee Foothills Concert Band, Women’s Orchestra of Arizona, and the Hot Beignets traditional jazz band, for this fun and interactive music making workshop. Budding percussionists of all ages will learn how to make and play simple percussion instruments from items found around the home. At the beginning of the workshop, Duane and Maureen will show some percussion instruments that they have built, and everyone will be welcomed to play them. Following that, they will help class participants make simple instruments using everyday objects. The workshop will end with a brief concert performed by all the budding percussionists alongside Duane and Maureen. Materials will be provided. If participants could bring some small, hard plastic bottles with lids (e.g., vitamin containers), that would be helpful (but not required). Ages 6 & up.
Registration is required.
